Sandra C. Kim was born and raised in New York and studied at Parsons the New School for Design, focusing on knitwear. This has led her to design for fashion brands such as Edun and Alice + Olivia to now officially launching her own brand, MIKCARDNAS.

MIKCARDNAS [mee-car-na] in reverse symbolizes the 360 perspective of knitwear designer, SANDRA C. KIM. Based in New York, MIKCARDNAS specializes in luxe handmade knit bags, embraces slow fashion and strives to create beautiful yet thoughtful and lasting designs. MIKCARDNAS is designed for the woman who finds beauty in intricate details, effortless style and one-of-a-kind creations.

MIKCARDNAS was born through my desire to seek more, I needed to fuel my heart with something more than just my career as a knitwear designer. The constant thought that came to mind was how I can create more, design more, and share more of my creativity to the world. Knits and the exploration of yarns have always given me an unexplainable thrill and energy. I learned how to knit and crochet from my mother at a very young age, which was passed down by her own mother. This passion definitely stemmed through generations. I eventually studied and graduated from Parsons the New School for Design, specializing in knitwear and it has been my profession ever since and really just a part of who I am.

When you think of knits, you think of sweaters and when you think of handbags, you think of a type of leather, suede or canvas. This thought occurred to me - I wanted to create functional, yet beautiful handmade bags in purely yarn. Not the casual kind you wear to the beach, but the luxury kind that exudes class and sophistication. Not enough of it is out there in the market, yet there is so much beauty in it. This was even more the motivation for me to create and share more in this world. And quite frankly, an entire look of knits plus a knit bag is truly the look of my dreams.

I strive to create new designs for MIKCARDNAS that are thoughtful, intentional and unique. Ultimately, each style will continue on forever in different yarn qualities based on the current season and different colors based on what my heart’s feeling.
